About Barbara Siemens
Barbara M. Siemens is an active contributor to the musical community. Since 1986, she has worked with piano students of all levels and ages, gaining considerable experience and insight in the process. Her training includes a Master of Arts in Historical Musicology, a Bachelor of Music, an A.R.C.T. Performer’s Diploma and an A.R.C.T. Teacher’ Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada.
As a senior examiner, Ms. Siemens has been with R.C.M. Examinations since 1993 and has traveled in Canada and the U.S. on their behalf. She also adjudicates regularly as a member of the Canadian Music Festival Adjudicators' Association and has presented guest lectures for local events.
Her volunteer work includes over seventeen years on the Executive committees of the Vancouver and Provincial branches of the British Columbia Registered Music Teachers' Association, as well as fifteen years with the Vancouver Music Festival Workshop. In addition to teaching, examining, adjudicating, and volunteering, Ms. Siemens also writes program notes for recital events. The Piano Workbook: A Resource and Guide for Students in Ten Levels provides a multitude of opportunities to enhance the learning experience of all students. The eight sample pages taken from Level 5 of the various Student Editions illustrate some of the topics addressed in the workbooks. As each level builds on the skills and exercises of previous workbooks, the samples shown become increasingly more complex for succeeding levels, and decreasingly complex for preceeding levels. The Teacher's Manual provides complete explanations for all pages in the student workbooks as well as multiple examples for the exercises.
